Lost In Beijing

Aaron and Mark came into the city yesterday and invited us to go and meet them to walk around. Kim and I were going to go check out the park but we decided to go meet up with them instead.

~Side story: The school gave us these little booklets that we use when we take cabs, they have the address and place in English but also they have it written in Chinese so that we just show the place on the page and the cab driver can shake their head yes or no that they know where to go. VERY helpful ahah

Mark tells us that they are at the Yashow Market but they will meet us at The Den (which is a pub). Kim and I have never been, but our cab driver shakes his head yes that he knows where it is, so we get in and are on our way. Our cab driver stops (where we think our destination is) and points to his right so we get out and are looking around but can't seem to find "The Den" anywhere. We decide to cross the street...which is always an adventure in itself here haha. We don't see it on that side either so we decide to cross back to the other side and walk around. We walk all the way up the street and all the way back down and still don't see it. We start to get frustrated and are convinced we are no where near The Den and the guys have probably left by now anyways.
This whole time Kim has her book out and is trying to find the street names on her map and we are on the street it says to be on in our book. Finally we decide to give up and go walk towards the Yashow Market and check it out. On our way there we look over and what do we see right on the corner of the street but "The Den" (right next to Hooters which Kim had pointed out on our way to getting lost) We walk over convinced the guys have left but as we get closer they are still sitting there! :) we were very happy to see them and were a little mad it was so close but we didn't see it.

The morning was an adventure but then we spent the afternoon exploring the Yashow market and other shopping places and then we went for a few drinks and some food and met some of the teachers that are teaching at the school with Mark and Aaron.

The Yashow Market was really exciting and also a little intense. It is the market where I was told that people grab your arms and try and get you to buy things. So I braced myself before stepping in and it wasn't as bad as I had expected it to be, and WOW there was so much to buy, like 4 levels of shopping.
Here is a picture of the outside (I was too nervous to take my camera out inside haha)

Mark bought some shoes and Kim bought some Uggs but I didn't buy anything. Maybe next time.

After the Market we walked around and right next to Yashow Market where you bargain and pay what you want for what you want ahah is these really expensive stores where you can't bargain at all. Here are some pictures of those stores. Erica I knew you would like the Roxy store!

After some exploring we went to sit down and have a drink while we waited for Aaron and his friend to meet up with us. We sat down at a place called "Pure girl bar"

Then we decided to go have some food and headed back to "The Den" and enjoyed some very yummy pizza. After that we bumped into a big table of teachers from my school and Aaron and Marks school so we decided to go have a drink with all of them and headed back to Pure Girl. When we arrived one of the guys that worked there kicked people out of two tables for us haha we felt pretty important. It was a fun night and I look forward to hanging out with them again soon.
